Hills, creeks and mud
The cross country season is a chance for athletes to take on a distance race over varied terrain each week, with most courses including creeks, mud and hills. It runs through the cooler months between the summer Little Athletics seasons.
Who can take part
Athletes from U6 through to U17 can run in the main cross country events each week.
Fun cross country events are also run for our youngest athletes, keeping the experience age-appropriate and enjoyable.
Recreational Athletics members along with parents are welcome to join in too — the cross country season is a great way for the whole family to keep active over winter.
Joining in
A flat $5.00 entry fee is paid at the start line on race day, regardless of how you join.
If you're a current member of the summer Little Athletics season, you can just turn up on the day. No extra registration needed.
You have two options: register with a local Little Athletics club before the day, or attend a scheduled program meet as a come and try.
Cross Country Championships
To be eligible for the Cross Country Championships, athletes must be registered with a Little Athletics SA club.
To qualify, athletes need to compete in at least three cross country meets during the season.
