About high jump

The following technique and equipment requirements apply at club level:

  • U6–U8 athletes must only use the Scissor Kick with feet landing first.
  • U6 & U7 athletes are only permitted to use the Flexi Bar.

How the bar is raised

After each round of trials, the bar must be raised by at least 2cm. The increment never increases across rounds — once the bar moves up by 3cm it cannot then move up by 5cm.

The size of the increment depends on how many athletes remain in the competition. With more than six athletes, the bar is raised by 5cm. With six or fewer, by 3cm. With three or fewer, by 2cm. Regardless of how many athletes remain, the first two raises are always 5cm.

Once one athlete remains as the winner, that athlete chooses subsequent heights in consultation with the Chief Judge or Referee.
