Parents at Plympton Flyers
Plympton Flyers is a volunteer-run, not-for-profit club. Our committee — parents of competing athletes themselves — coordinates Sunday meets, training, and everything in between.
If you’re new to Little Athletics, you’re in good company. Experienced parents and committee members are around every Sunday in their blue Plympton Flyers shirts to show you the ropes. Little Athletics SA’s How to Help guide is also a great introduction to events and how you can pitch in.

Little Athletics builds fitness, social confidence, and a lifelong love of being active. The biggest factor in whether your child enjoys it isn’t the coaching or the program — it’s your approach. A relaxed, encouraging one goes a long way.
Every Hand Helps
Running a Sunday meet is a big operation — two simultaneous tracks, jumps, throws, the BBQ and canteen. It only happens because families take turns helping out.
A $50 refundable Parent Duty Bond is included in your first child’s membership fee. Complete your duties through the season and the bond is returned to you at the end.
Each family completes four duties across the season — two before Christmas, two after. You self-select your shifts via our online roster, SignUp.
- Use the same email address as your registration.
- Use your child’s full name so we can reconcile your duties.
- Fill from the earliest dates first.
- If you can’t complete a selected duty, switch it via SignUp.
- For help, watch the video walkthrough or email ply@salaa.org.au.
Duties are first in, first served. Please stay for the full shift and check in on arrival. Without rostered volunteers, events may be delayed or cancelled.
What You Could Be Doing
Four duty types to choose from on the SignUp roster. All are easy to learn and more fun than they sound.
Help with equipment setup before the meet, or pack-up after.
Help run our two tracks each Sunday as Starter, Marshall, or Recorder.
Cook the BBQ or serve in the canteen.
First four weeks: uniform and registration packs, plus Come and Try sign-ins.
Field officials wanted too. Hurdles, walks, jumps, throws — see Officiating roles for guides on each.
Exemptions & Notes
Assisting your Age Group doesn’t count. Helping with your child’s age group on a Sunday morning is appreciated, but doesn’t count toward your four parent duties.
Home meets only. These four duties cover Sunday meets at Plympton. State events have their own volunteer requirements if your child competes.
Exemptions. Some families face circumstances that make completing duties impossible. To request an exemption, contact our treasurer at treasurer@plymptonflyers.com.
